One of the questions I had in my Q&A blog post was what are my top 10 rollercoasters and after searching through my published post, I discovered I have actually never put one together. It’s a list that never stops changing so I’ll probably re-visit this list end of this year to see how it changes! Therefore without me rambling on any further let’s just get into this post.
10)) Oblivion – Alton Towers:
I couldn’t put this list together and snub Oblivion. It may well be one of the simplest rollercoasters we have but it was the first of its kind and it is thrilling. Regardless of the fact I have probably ridden this over 100 or so times, it never fails to make my heart sink when plunging into the pitch-black hole.
9)) Nemesis – Alton Towers:
If I’m honest Nemesis is a bit of an odd one for me. Whenever I’m in the queue to ride, the surrounding area or simply just thinking of this coaster, I have this really warm feeling inside. The coaster itself is fab there is simply no denying that but the older it’s got the more it’s got rougher and perhaps not quite as comfortable as it once was, which is obviously always bound to happen to any coaster in fact. But if I wrote this list a few years ago I would have rated it a lot higher. But it’s one of those I could not have written this list without including.
8)) Stealth – Thorpe Park:
I finally fell in love with Stealth again last season. I love the pure adrenaline of the launch, those butterflies in your belly and the floating over the top hat. It is all so beautiful. Stealth is immense.
7)) Speed: No Limits – Oakwood:
If I wrote this list a few years back Saw probably would have been sat somewhere amongst the top 5. However, Saw is not particularly my cup of tea as such but Speed is something else. This is one of the most surprisingly beautiful coasters I have experienced. The layout is something opposite to what I had ever expected and the factors it offers in regards to airtime blew my expectations.
6)) Thirteen – Alton Towers:
If I’m honest this rollercoaster flutters between this place and third quite often too. Whenever I’m away from it I end up forgetting how fab it really is so I guess that sums up why it’s sat here haha.
5)) Odyssey- Fantasy Island:
I’ll be completely honest with the fact I once hated this coaster with every inch of my body. We had some of the worst rides back in 2016 in pouring down rain and my fear of heights also added to the issues too. But the best thing we did was re-visit and experience it again last October because since it has gone from the bottom of my list right to here. It turns out without weather conditions coming into play this is an outstanding coaster. It is not all that rough, it is terrifying with the sheer height and the fact your feet aren’t resting on a floor. It is fab and I promise it’s worth visiting Fantasy Island alone.
4)) Wickerman – Alton Towers:
It may well be my favourite UK wooden rollercoaster but not my favourite all around. But I do love Wickerman so much. I never find myself not immersed with every layer that adds up to complete the entire experience. It always wows me with the layout and how it rides but it is the newest wooden rollercoaster I have ever experienced so who knows once I get out there and experience more this may change.
3)) The Swarm – Thorpe Park:
I’ll begin with the smaller factor that always leaves me quite sad is how short this actually is. I wish we had a few seconds more to fly around the track in all honesty. But that aside The Swarm is stunning. The theming is lush. Something I find with The Swarm is it doesn’t matter where you sit or the time of day you ride it just never differs in the experience it offers. It is just constantly fab.
2)) Red Force – PortAventura:
An absolute beast. The sheer roar that comes from this coaster blows my mind every single time. It just sounds so mean and fierce. The height is something which scares the living daylights out of me and for a good reason at that too. You float the moment you head over the top hat to the second of touching the brake run and that is what you call airtime. The launch was one of my first experiences with greying out as at the end of that launch the intensity gets to an unreal point which almost knocked me out cold.
1)) Big Thunder Mountain – Disneyland Paris:
4 year old me never expected to sit and write about this at all let alone have this as my favourite rollercoaster mainly due to the fact I was wimpy and terrified of the world haha. But my first rollercoaster is also my favourite rollercoaster, ain’t that crazy? There is so many factors as to why this is my favourite coaster. I’ll begin with the lush theming sections mainly in the indoor lift hills. Then you have the overall duration which is lovely and long but not too long to the point your like ‘when will this end’ but to the point you hit the brake run fulfilled that it was worth that 40 minute wait. I’m aware the dark sections make the coaster feel much faster than it actually is but I quite like that. Although darkness is a little weak point for me as I can find it sometimes quite intimidating, I actually love it on this coaster. The way your blissfully unaware of what is going on whilst feeling as your moving at an immense speed. Basically there really isn’t much about this coaster that I don’t enjoy or love.
I’d love to hear your top 10 rollercoasters too! Do you share any of mine?
Thank you for reading as always x
