Many of you have probably experienced several of both of these. But last November I experienced my first ever trackless ride and was quite literally mind blown by the enhanced experience offered.
My first trackless dark ride was of course Ratatouille. The entire experience of free movement without been stuck to a specific tracked route was insane. Each carriage had their own experience to each other which really did make the ride more re-rideable. I’ve had several encounters with tracked dark rides and they’ve always been a lot of fun. But which do we prefer & why?

This ride system offers a more freely based experience to engaged all areas of the particular story & theme. The way the carriages can move into any spaces they are programmed to is impressive. During our experience in DLP we were amazed by how detailed the story got told. The movement of the carriages tilting add a whole different dimension to the experience. Not to forget when we rode Ratatouille the way the carriages used the theming & screens to immerse you actually did make you feel like a rat inside the kitchen.

This version of a dark ride is equally as immersive and fun if done correctly. Although since experiencing our first trackless ride this version of a dark ride now feels quite dated. There’s nowhere near enough freedom to fully explain or express a story desired to be told. Yet rides like Wallace & Gromit are done so perfectly that you can’t find a fault with the system itself.

Personally we do prefer trackless based rides. They offer a more unique and tailored experience to each individual carriage. Which adds so many reasons to continuously experience these kind of attractions. The throughputs aren’t all that bad neither. We’d love to see some of these types of dark rides open across the UK.
Which do you prefer?
