I’m going to break this down into 3 separate blog posts if I was to pop it all in one it’ll be incredibly long-winded and possibly hard to follow. So, let’s begin where the journey commenced which was Birmingham airport. If you don’t want to follow along with these 3 part story time then keep an eye out for a shorter version that will be based on tips we have learnt.
So, we chose to fly this time to give the car & Ant a break. We were fortunate enough to grab a lift from family to the Birmingham train station to then hop on the monorail over to the airport. If you arrive before the typical running schedule for the said monorail you can use a button to call it across to you, so don’t worry about that.
Once arriving at the airport it was straight to security for us as we already checked in and had only hand luggage. We made security a lot easier for us as we had everything prepared such as liquids in clear bags but in our backpacks rather than a suitcase. It went very plain sailing.
From there straight over to Wetherspoon for breakfast. Pricing is of course very high in comparison to the regular prices you’d find purely due to it being in an airport. Once we had finished we headed to our gate number which came up on the boarding passes on our phone for airfrance which was handy.
Boarding was straightforward & uncomplicated. Our bags never got checked for their weight nor their size. However, don’t rely on that being the case all the time but just in case you feel that anxiety we do. We got boarded onto the plane in zones which will also be shown on your passes too. Once on the plane, it’s as sluggish as normal with everyone getting relaxed and sorting out their luggage.
Unfortunately, our plane was postponed 20 odd minutes due to it needing to be de-iced. The communication was by all means not the finest given all announcements were made in French with little to no English variation afterwards. This was quite stressful & made us feel quite uneasy too. The flight was smooth once we got off the ground. We then touched down at 8:41 rather than 8:20.
To then queue another 35/40 minutes to get through border control after almost going back to departures due to inadequate communication from the staff in the airport. We were asking around for guidance to the train station but consistently got sent down the wrong queues etc. So, in the end, we ended up following those with Disney gear on as that was a lot easier.
So, here’s a summary of our travel experience from BHX to CDG. The next part of this will be the dreaded train express we had from CDG to Chessy (Disneyland Paris). I’ll revisit this and leave a link HERE for those who want a follow-up.
