I’m overwhelmed by the sheer love & support I have felt from my trip report from my first ever solo trip to Alton Towers. As I frequently informed you, you guys are the best. So, I’ve had a few ask for some tips and I think it’ll be good to have this in my little space on the internet for anyone who needs it. I hope this helps and if you’ve got questions or need advice my DMs are always free!
Off-Peak Days Preferably:
For me, I think an off-peak day would be preferred for the first-timers. That way you won’t be standing in 1+ hour queues alone and have that sense of awkwardness. Typically, on the quieter days, most stuff will be a walk-on or queues will be light.
Take Something You Find Comforting:
Oddly enough mine is my coat with secure compartments. I have a tendency to get anxious when leaving my bag in the unattended baggage huts. So, a coat with secure pockets is my comfort item. I just ensure I have the necessities with me and they have been popped away securely during the ride experience. I love keeping myself cosy and arms covered, it’s always something that I have found to calm my anxiety in general.
Escape Your Own Mind:
Escaping your mind is key. Honestly, nobody will probably recognise your alone and will presume those with you aren’t keen to ride the said rides. I found myself to begin with feeling a little bit weird but honestly, you were there to have fun nobody is thinking anything of you. Let your mind be free and clear for the day.
Single Rider Queues:
Make the most out of those single rider queues where applicable. I believe The Smiler is the only one at the minute for Alton Towers. But if you are towards the front of any ride and spot a 3 ahead of you just kindly ask those in front of you if you can join that group. It reduces the queue down by occasionally a considerable percentage. But I found a lot of the time I didn’t need to ask anyone as the guest ahead of me were flagging me down a lot to fill up vacant seats which is always terrific! However, if you are reading this outside of the UK I’m sure single riders are more of a common occurrence, especially across the Disney & Universal parks.
Create A Plan:
If you are like me and need something to concentrate on to support you from overthinking then put yourself a little agenda or a goal together. Why not set yourself a challenge? The challenge I had set myself was to finish the Big 7 before the afternoon. It did work well and it occupied me all day. The only things to think about what was which row? What next? Everyone around me virtually became a haze and if someone spoke to me I’d of course reply. But I was focused which distracted me from overthinking.
Take Your Time:
There isn’t a need to rush around and make yourself fatigued. You get to where you want to go at your own pace. Investigate some of the areas you don’t usually get time to when you’re busy with your family & friends. Take some photos. Even ask a stranger to a take photo of you on your own phone. Just relaxing and taking in the moments is enough.
Have Fun:
The bottom line of your visit is to have fun and letting yourself unwind & be free is fundamental to doing that. Simply enjoying the moment and having that feeling of independence is something else. Everyone around you is there to have fun so you may as well join them & let that guard down.

It’s amazing your contemplating this step and you can do anything when you put your mind to it. I hope these tips & advice are beneficial! Those who visit regularly by themselves let’s help one another out and share some tips in the comments & across my socials.
Thank you for reading!
