Ah the UK has been moulded by some truly extraordinary rollercoasters. The massive pit then evolved into Nemesis to hitting & carrying the record for the UK tallest with The Big One. We have been blessed with some jewels and those gems are now getting on & most of which were built before a reasonable proportion of us enthusiasts were even born… how crazy? Okay, all those characteristics aside & before I babble too much, let’s have a little chat about those icons and where their future will lead them!
Vampire – Chessington World of Adventures:
The OG icon of the list. The vampire is still so precious by so many of the generations you see showcasing their affection after riding is very heartwarming to know it continues to be incredibly popular. It’s one of those for me which I’ll always adore but do feel it’s time to see some track or carriage whatever is creating those unexpected jolts throughout repaired. It has been remarkable to watch the theming get some TLC over recent years as it was needed for a long while. But the future I feel will end up looking similar to the other two classics in the list and that’s resorting to a re-track. It just needs those halts in the track fixing to be more desirable let’s say.
Nemesis – Alton Towers:
Nemesis what a beast! A truly fierce rollercoaster that never fails to provide a fab ride. One of which that comes alive during dark in my opinion. A rollercoaster with a well-detailed and thought out backstory too. It is effortlessly one of the largely valued Rollercoasters in the UK if not Europe. We are all very aware of the future of this ride and it is nothing but positive in my opinion. By all means, the potential roar will be a loss if we forfeit it in the process which does seem to be looking that way.
However, the key point to take away from this re-track is the fact we will see this coaster around for so many more years to come & that’s the end goal of what we all want. I want to take my children on this and tell them all the love it has received over the years & how many times I blacked out on that downwards helix. It’ll be producing memories for so many more generations & resume as part of our lives as we continue to grow. That’s the significant point of it all.
Shockwave – Drayton Manor:
A classic rollercoaster that does often tend to go under the radar, unfortunately. It was a lot of people’s first “upside-down” rollercoaster therefore it’ll permanently hold a special place in their hearts & those people I speak of does include me. I’ll adore Shockwave for many years to come, it helped pave the way for me within this hobby & enthusiasm of mine. One tiny thing then assisted me in withstand a lot of my fears.
The future for Shockwave does continue a mystery. I’d love to think it will head down the same tracks as the other two 1994s however this is yet to be verified & I don’t believe there are any rumours either. It’s a dear old ride for me and I’d hate to think we could lose it within the coming 10 years but as it stands at the moment it seems to be going strong. I don’t think it needs any work done just yet as it doesn’t ride inadequately at all. But long term I’ll love to see an overhaul of the track alongside some better & more importantly comfortable carriages
The Big One – Blackpool Pleasure Beach:
The first of the iconic rollercoasters to commence the procedure of a re-track. Of course, The Big One is probably the longest of the lists and has the most track covering public footpaths within the parks. Therefore, it has become a step by step re-track across the closed season and I think we’ll see this continue until it has all been achieved. For me, The Big One completes Pleasure Beach. That park isn’t the same when it’s not operating and for us, it leaves a huge piece of our day afloat.
It’s one of those which I think would put into perspective for us whether we’d visit or not without this coaster. I do think it’s the same for a lot of people too. The park is more than likely well aware of this too given their conclusion to prolong its life which in my books is the best decision. I’m very eager to get back on it for this season & see how the new bits of the track has made a difference because the last few bits have done a tremendous job so far
