As many would have seen the Twitter post I made the other day in regards to confronting my anxiety by visiting London. I thought I’d share some of the tips I found that assisted me to do this. I’m sure I ain’t the only person who has this anxiety/fear and I hope to help another.
Visit With People You Feel Safe With:
First & foremost for me was visiting with people I felt comfortable with and knew wouldn’t panic in stressful circumstances. It helped me so much. It’s always best to face your anxiety with those you know understand you but also can deal with it too. That alone takes that bit of stress & worry away instantly.
Occupy Your Mind On The Travel:
If you’re like us and travelling by public transport down and also feel anxious about that. Find a book or something you enjoy doing which can occupy your mind for the duration. I sat and read my latest read on my kindle for the entire time. It helped me out so much that I even managed a little nap too.
Breath & Rationalise Your Thoughts.
In a moment where you feel a wave of anxiety overcoming your body just take a minute to breathe. Big deep breaths are always key in that moment. There were a few times especially whilst travelling on the underground I had to take a few big breaths with my eyes closed to help me come back down to Earth. I know it’s tough but it does work for me & hopefully, it’ll help you. Whilst taking those breaths try and move your thoughts into a more rationalised calm manner.
Plan Enough Time To Not Have To Rush:
This was key for me. If I’m rushing about I would panic to a severe point. So, I spread out all we did in the day admittedly I got the timings all somewhat mistaken. But luckily we were able to enter attractions earlier than booked for. But ensuring you have enough time to sit and catch a break from the City life is something which I feel is vital. That way you can take your time when comprehending where you heading and what not.
Carry Natural Calming Products:
I personally adore the Tisserand Aromatherapy Rollers. You just roll them on your pulse point and genuinely they do help me. They just help take that edge of the struggles I have mentally. I’m optimistic it would help you guys too. Just see what works for you and ensure it’s small enough to carry about with you in those anxious moments.
