So, welcome to a new series I’ve decided to put together just for a little bit of fun and to interact with you guys. First stop is of course Alton Towers and focusing on their rollercoasters too. So, let’s dive into a little ride or skip. Of course, this is all based on my opinions.
Spinball Whizzer – SKIP
The older I get the more I tend to walk past Spinball and not even check the queue to ride. It’s by all means, not necessarily a poor rollercoaster but it’s just one that doesn’t always appeal to me. I’ve gone 2/3 seasons without riding these days.
Oblivion – RIDE
I love Oblivion. I won’t lie it’s been a moment since I’ve ridden it last. But Oblivion is short and sweet but a staple within the Towers line-up and one that’s a must ride. The apprehension it brings to my soul is next to no other when pivoting over the edge and plummeting into the dark hole. It just never gets old.
The Smiler – RIDE
If I were writing this about a year or two ago I’d have been saying an easy skip. But actually, I’ve had a couple of rides this season and I’ve really enjoyed it. The restraints are inexcusable given how dirty they are and how uncomfortable. But the ride experience itself is fun. 14 inversions still to this day hold that world record for being the most and the consolidated factor of this coaster is fun. You feel quite disorientated with so much track encircling you. The two lift hills and the duelling element when done right all create a fun and thrilling ride experience. Something that’ll leave you a little dizzy when sitting on the brake run. I also appreciate the sinister yet colourfully coloured theme.
Nemesis Reborn – SKIP – Queue Dependant
I miss the OG nemesis and you can read all about that in my blog HERE. It’s just not the same. However, if the queue is 10 minutes or less I’ll definitely give it another shot but as a whole, it’s a skip.
Runaway Mine Tours – RIDE
Choo, choo. It’s cute, fun and may be for the family but still for everyone. It’s just fun.
Galactica – SKIP
Straight up I don’t detest this coaster by any means. It’s pleasant, it’s silky and the first of its kind which earns some praise. But nothing really attracts me to it these days. I love watching off-ride more. Yet I say this but I would be sad to see it go too. Something that maybe sways me to dodge is the restraints I don’t find them very comfortable but it was the prototype what else can you say?
Rita – RIDE
Love her or hate her Rita has that impact on people. I personally love her and have I doing so since the day I first rode her in 2016. She’s immaculate at what she does. Not too slow not too fast and the airtime again is a massive advantage and the intensity pops. The painful reality is there’s little to no guarantee we’ll see this type of launch lasting much longer given how many have been demolished across the world. So, I’ll be hanging on to Rita and enjoying every ride feasible like it’s the final because you just never know.
Thirteen – RIDE
One of my firm favourites amongst the whole of Alton Towers’ line-up. It’s spooky, out in the sticks, unique and so much fun. The drop never fails to surprise me at how steep it actually is the glimpses you get off-ride do that drop no justice at all. The location and setting it’s in adds to the story perfectly Alton Towers were intelligent with that. A big bonus for thirteen is its dreamy smoothness.
Octonatus – SKIP
It’s absolutely not intended for us so it’s a skip. However, come a couple of years and I can see little Liara lapping this thing!
Wickerman – RIDE
I love Wicker Man it’s truly tremendous. There’s so much right about the ride layout how the pops of airtime are so consistent and effortless. The theming is brilliant especially passing through Big Bob 3 times. The fire when it works especially at night adds so much to the experience. It would be more re-rideable if we lost the pre-show or even had that as a rolling show that merges into the queue without having to stop and watch it.
