The UK is fortunate to have a considerable number of rollercoasters, all of which offer their own thrill, but here are 3 rollercoasters that still scare us to this day, no matter how many rides later. Let’s dive in!
3 – Oblivion – Alton Towers:
Yes, Oblivion still to this day makes us let out a little scream of terror. I’m confident that’s the suspense of overhanging the edge without knowing when you’ll lunge downwards into the pitch-black hole before rising out the other side back into the light again. It really is the simplest of layouts yet that hesitation before racing down the track really does keep us on the edge of our seats even still. It’s brilliant, and the fact it still makes us feel this way despite all the rides we’ve had shows how impactful it is.
2 – The Big One – Pleasure Beach Resort
There is nothing on this planet that could get us used to that first drop. Regardless of where you are sat on that train it genuinely feels as if you are about to descend into the sea. It really is one of the scariest rollercoaster drops we’ve ever done. I also find the turnaround point really unnerving too. It’s that clunky sensation as you are turning this corner that feels as if you are about to tumble off the edge; it never fails to scare me. But let’s not forget the sheer height of the damn thing; the long climb up that lift hill never fails to make me question my life choices in why I chose to put myself through it again. The height is truly horrendous.
1 – Hyperia – Thorpe Park:
What a rollercoaster! The best in the UK by a country mile and the scariest at that too. Again, the height climbing to the top is truly something else; admittedly you reach the climax much quicker than you do on The Big One. That first drop is phenomenal; it’s so abrupt and the upside stall well let me tell you that’s the most ominous sensation. The outer bank turnaround point feels as if you are upside down, yet you aren’t. The speed this goes at alone makes it all feel like one big terrifying blur. It’s out of this world and a true gem to have amongst the UK line-up; we are truly blessed.
