Event | Ride & Light Illumination at Wheelgate Park

It’s December the month of festive light trails, cold evenings and the smell of toasted marshmallows. Is there a better evening? No! Our second event of this essence this year and we were kindly invited by the team at Wheelgate Park to check out this event. We really admire working alongside these guys across here and at Twinlakes and let’s have an honest chat about this event.

Rides & Park Offering:

A good portion of the rides are actually open during this event which is brilliant to see. Alongside the rides, the soft play areas are also open as normal for guests. The variety of indoor and outdoor attractions to enjoy for the children is brilliant. Especially during the cold the indoor soft plays are extremely handy to let the children blow some steam off whilst we adults can warm up! With those attractions being open the zoo is also open with indoor sections as well.

The Light Trail Itself:

We didn’t predict the trail to be quite as long as it was. It took us a good 30-45 minutes to explore. There was so much to see and there are some really stunning scenes as well. One of which I adored was the light trail that’s designed to look like a river it’s such an unusual touch that I don’t think we’ve seen elsewhere. The combination of lights, audio and the fire show is the flawless mix for the excellent light trail. As SEN parents we found Liara really embraced this and the audio levels were set comfortably to the point she handled it really well. Liara’s highlight was the giant snowmen with the Christmas music overlay and the fake snow. There’s also a fire show which happens every so often and that’s very impressive I don’t think we’ve ever seen so much fire in one area. The finale light tunnel has to be one of the best we’ve probably ever seen. The whole light trail itself was beautiful, festive and peaceful.

Opening Times:

During our visit, the park opened at 4:30 and closed at 7:30. The tickets are timed ticketed admittedly we arrived 30 minutes late (getting out the door is tricky sometimes as parents) but we arrived around 5:30 and it was very very quiet.

Overall Experience:

We had such a magical evening. The crowd levels were excellent, the event is so beautifully delivered and the offering to what’s open is ace. There’s nothing we can imply to even improve. But it’s the perfect event for the whole family to enjoy. The park truly has smashed this and we aim for this to become an annual tradition here on.

If you haven’t already absolutely book this in before it’s too late. To buy your tickets click HERE.
