My Favourite Scare Mazes of 2025

October truly felt like the shortest month in existence. It’s now November and the spooky blues have hit hard. I just want to stroll through a themed maze, be terrorised and scream a little. So, I’m revisiting my spooky season and having a chat about my favourite mazes from THIS year & why I love them. Join me and let’s revisit the scares together.

Contained at Scare City:

This was the first maze of the 2025 season at a brand new event for us event Scare City. This style of event was something out of the ordinary to us as we have never done one continuous experience before and honestly, we loved it. Contained was quite the maze to begin with as it was loud, overstimulating and vile. There were weapons used and the actors were FULL on. It was a lot and you felt almost trapped in the finale like it just won’t end but it was brilliant the strongest of the entire event.

Deadbeat at Thorpe Park Fright Nights:

A surprising breakthrough for us at Fright Nights. We expected very little from this maze more so based on the theme. However, we had a solo run through and truly came out terrified. There are some creative scare tactics throughout and the loud music with the intense strobe creates the flawless environment for out-of-the-blue scares. It’s truly marvellous.

The Edge of the Forest at Scarefest:

A weaker of the bunch on here but still a maze from Scarefest which we thoroughly enjoyed. It certainly needs improvements and I do believe that’ll come with time and with feedback too. But the repetitive theme of the maze is something I enjoyed as you gradually get deeper into the eroding forest. We had respectable scares and found it the strongest out of the two we had done. It’s a maze I hope returns next season with feedback on board and stronger.

Shriekeasy at The Howl:

A more unique style of show led meets a scare maze kind of experience. It was interactive and the story was comfortable to understand. The actors & actresses throughout played their roles beautifully. It was stunning in terms of theming and the scare maze section was fun. Again, it’s the first year you can spot room for improvement but that didn’t take away from how brilliant that was for the first year and the unusual elements were terrific.

Insomnia at Screamfest Burton:

A maze that’s sat on our most anticipated lists since its return a few years ago. It did not disappoint. The batching of groups definitely needs to improve to allow this maze to shine to its full potential. The initial queueline scenes were unnerving & the entire theme behind this maze is eerie in so many ways. The characters you meet along the way are very creepy. We never had many intense jumps but the entire theme behind this maze and how it is portrayed alone is enough to make this list!

Summer Camp Massacre at Dr Frights:

I’m not a big horror movie fan by any means I never go out of my way to sit and watch them I saw enough of them growing up and developed quite big fears of most characters from them. This maze combined all the classic characters from Jason, Ghostface, Freddie Krueger and that’s just to name a few. Honestly, this maze had me the closest to the limits more so for playing on my natural fears of these characters. It was like walking through the movie sets and never knowing where they were going to pop up from. It was brilliant and probably one of the scariest mazes for me on a more personal level out of the bunch we have done this year.

Chop Shop at Shocktoberfest:

Oldie but goldie, it just doesn’t get boring ever. This year was by far the best year we’ve done chop shop. I’ve never seen a chop shop have quite so many actors throughout. The chainsaw finale section just never ends and this year I was pinned against the wall with chainsaws more times than I can count. It was one of the most intense finales I’ve done in a very long time with how bullied I got. It’s just one of those mazes that just keep giving no matter how old it is.

Blurtlurst at Xtreme Scream Park:

The most beautifully themed maze we’ve probably ever seen and that says a lot given Doom Town at Tulleys. The attention to detail that’s gone into this maze from the props, smells, special effects the whole thing comes into its own so beautifully. The actors were phenomenal in here too. I wouldn’t say it was the scariest but I feel we were far too amazed by the beautiful theming throughout. A truly spectacular maze that deserves all the awards it can get.

Diabolus Visum Mortis at Doncaster Fear Factory:

The maze of the year for us. I can’t quite explain how terrified we were inside this maze. The entire pitch black with the rope with the lightning only ever lighting up a scare was one of the cleverest ways to give jumps. It was incredibly intense and nerve-wrenching the entire way around. Once the rope ended the scares didn’t stop. The finale was probably one of the most horrifying experiences. The mixture of dummies to actors and the fierce strobe lightning made it nearly impossible to even anticipate where the scares were going to come from. The terror screams that happened inside this maze were some of the biggest all season. Bear in mind you are batched solely in your party and there were only 3 of us…

Honourable Mention:

Mawkin Meadows – Thorpe Park Fright Nights:

Of course, this isn’t officially a scare maze however it’s very close in my opinion. The setup of this scare zone is truly magnificent the little spots for the crows to blend within or hide are outstanding. The added indoor section and more theatrical like moment just prior are extraordinary. We had some of our biggest jumps within this zone and it truly is something exceptionally special. One of those staples within Fright Nights that simply can never leave the line-up. It’s iconic, the crow themselves are legends of Fright Nights too.

2025 was one of the best Halloween seasons for us in a long while. We had the absolute best time and truly appreciated all the events for their invitations to check out their attractions. All the mazes we’ve done this year were incredible in their own way but the above are highlights for us.
