When the parks re-opened and so many headed to Blackpool Pleasure Beach there was so much hype surrounding both re-tracks and I was super interested in experience it for myself, which has now happened. Therefore, I have decided to sit and have a chin wag about it with you guys! Of course, this post is solely based on my viewpoints and experience on the day as it all comes down to where you are sat, the weather and overall everyone has different experiences. Either way, I hope you enjoy it!
The Big One:
Let’s begin with the first ride we had of the day. We headed straight to The Big One and ended up sitting mid-train on the front of the individual carriage. The majority of the ride has not received a re-track to make things obvious there is a small section by the hotels and the section from the tunnel into the brake run. As an overall ride experience, it is fairly clear that the best part of the track needs re-tracking in the nearby future for me the main bit, in my opinion, is the turnaround point. It clonks around that section which alone isn’t the most comfortable experience, of course, it is to be expected given the age and battering of the sea and weather it gets and has got over the last 27 years of operation.
The re-tracked section nearby the hotel is delightful but it does draw more attention to the difference in old to new track and nor is the transitioned between the two that smooth. The latest section of the re-track is brilliant. I’m so glad to see this section get replaced as it really did get uncomfortable over the last few years and honestly it has made the world of difference. It just feels marvellous the way it glides through into the brake run. After having two rides one in the middle and the other at the back it is an insane difference between the new to the old tracks.
Big Dipper:
After not hearing as much fanfare surrounding the re-track that Big Dipper it almost seemed as if it hadn’t made a great amount of difference. However, I was honestly blown away by the sheer amount of improvement it has made. It has made the coaster in my opinion. I love the rough edges as much as the smooth but that first couple of drops now feel remarkable. There used to be a sense of dread of reaching the bottom of the first drop but now it just glides over the next hill with no rough bumps or edges.
I must admit just like The Big One the difference between an old to a new track is insanely noticeable. But it has almost amplified a little charm to the ride as you don’t want the ride perfectly smooth. You want those rough edges still as it’s just a classic that should be appreciated really. The next area I’d love to see re-tracked is the section nearby the hotels as that banking down is almost intolerable. But as a whole, this has become my new number one at Pleasure Beach!
Have you encountered both of these coasters yet? If so, I’d love to hear your impressions on the re-tracks in the comments or across our socials.
Thank you so much for reading!
