The UK has JUST got its first flying theatre and I believe it’s a huge step for the UK parks going forward. I highly doubt it will be the only one to exist within the next 5 years or so. However, are they really the way forward for UK parks and story-led ride experiences? I’m going to write this post about the exact theme parks I would love to see investment in these attractions in the nearby future and why? I’d love to hear all about your thoughts on this topic too.
The first theme park which comes to mind is, of course, Alton Towers. This kind of attraction would suit the park really well in my opinion but also take the park to the next level of ride offerings. I feel it could be the perfect way to finalize The World of David Walliams by interpreting one of the books into this attraction. The area for me doesn’t feel quite complete as of yet therefore if going down the road of phase 2 with this kind of ride could easily make the area thrive even more. Just imagine how exceptionally well-themed and immersive it would be whilst looking at the theming for Gangsta Granny.
Drayton Manor is the next ideal theme park in my opinion. I genuinely believe this park is one that will be redeeming its glory in the coming years and shamelessly outdoing itself with each investment. I’d love to see them introduce an entirely new area nearby The Buffalo and on the site of Vertigo build a huge flying theatre, if the space is too small then using the Pirates Adventure building and incorporating a pirate-themed story to tell. Either way, I think Drayton Manor could smash a flying theatre and effortlessly make it one of their largely well-themed attractions at the park.
Next is Paultons Park. Another park that is investing more recently and by the looks of it continuously outdoing itself. This park is another one to watch in the coming years as it’s going to be a big deal even more so than it already is. I think another new area brand new theme to work off and this style of attraction could quite easily work a treat. For their target audience as well as connecting more of the thrill-seekers too.
Overall:
I can see a handful of UK theme parks potentially investing in this kind of ride in the nearby future as a few parks would truly suit this attraction within their existing rides and areas as it stands. I would love to see a few more pop up with a range of stories to be told and experienced. I’m not sure it’s something we will see take off immediately in all honesty especially down to the existing pandemic more than anything else. But I do think this style of ride is the future for UK parks.
