No doubt we have all seen this exact rumour spreading across social media alongside a whole heap of negativity and memes right? Well, I tweeted about it and briefly shared my thoughts but I thought let’s dive into this topic and really cover it. By all means, there’s been no official announcement or confirmation regarding this as of the time of writing this post (9th March) and everything surrounding this is unconfirmed, so please understand this is just my thoughts on the rumours.
Let’s start off with the fact we all have said for years that Alton Towers needs flat rides after all the removals in previous years right? So, why so much negativity? I’ll admit this wasn’t the route I expected to be taken however I generally see more pros than cons with this decision.
Personally, I think this is a brilliant step into the future development of the park in all honesty. It’s the ideal solution to weigh up whether or not there is a calling for more permanent flat rides going forward without committing to installing them permanently, but also it’s supporting the owners of these rides during these really hard times. Part of the rumour is Alton Towers are putting these flat rides in to help with the queues, which we can all agree makes perfect sense. That is something yet again we have all said needed to happen. But whether you agree or are happy about these rides it’ll be more beneficial to us all as if it impacts the queue times and decreases them even by a fraction it leads to an even more enjoyable day out. Everyone loves to see new rides open across the parks and for all we know these said rides could well be pretty fab.
Of course, I understand the concerns regarding the ‘fairground’ feel whilst at Alton Towers as let’s face it it’s the polar opposite to the usual atmosphere there is, given it’s a theme park. Not to forget the obvious questions of whether the announcements will be fitting in the area they are located in & what not. But if I’m honest I’m hopeful to the fact that if this is a true rumour that there’d slap some kind of theming around each of the 4 rides to make them less noticeable as funfair rides. But then again we don’t exactly know what the rides are meant to be beside the photo circulating social media right now which again who knows if that’s even real. I think locations are something that has got me interested. I think it’s inevitable we’ll see one flat ride in Ripsaws old site and Submissions. But some of the rumours suggest the lawns will become a spot for one of the rides too. Which personally I can’t see it being true especially if events like Oktoberfest return unless the ride leaves prior. I’m not sure. Either way, the one thing which I hope happens with these rides is styling them into a way they won’t stick out like a sore thumb compared to the remaining permanent flat rides at the park. I think it’s worth just looking at the bigger picture and how it’s what we’ve all wanted to see even if the rides aren’t the ones we had thought would open at the park, they are still flat rides nonetheless.
Overall though I really think this should be looked at as a positive rather than a negative. I really believe this could open up the door to so many more opportunities and investment in the coming years. I’m really open-minded to the idea and it gets me excited to see how it pans out and whether it will end up in further investment down the line. Either way, I’m sure we will all end up enjoying these rides and supporting Alton Towers regardless.
