3 Classic Coasters Are 25 Years Old….

Perhaps we’re a little late to this party but it’s still the 2019 season so it counts still. This blog will be about talking all things relating to the 3 most iconic coasters for the UK turning 25. Of course we will be doing some comparison but don’t feel there any similarities other than they are all steel & opened in the same year. We hope you enjoy this blog and let us know your thoughts on the 3 coasters.

Nemesis:

We’ll begin with the beast of the 3 and truly the best coaster out of them all. Nemesis is an absolute treasure to the UK coaster industry in our opinion. It’s pretty much every enthusiast ultimate love for the UK (our number one is Icon). After 25 years of operation it still runs like a new coaster with an insane amount of intensity. Out of the 3 coasters it’s the best themed and has a real incredible background story. If we’re honest we do think we are so lucky to have this coaster in the UK given how much of a gem it really is. Of course we have Inferno which doesn’t come close to Nemesis for us by all means it’s fab. Yet it’s not Nemesis and the ground hugging feature is probably what tops it of for us. The amount of near misses with the surrounding rock work and how close you feel to the ground really adds something special to it. Let’s not lie it has one of the coolest looking stations to any UK coasters or ride in fact.

The Big One:

Its a massive love for us and still to this day gives us a good thrill with the sheer height & steepness of the drop. The Big One does have some rough edges and sections of the track where it feels pretty much boxed rather than a smooth turn. However those smaller things adds hugely to the coaster personality. During our previous visit to Pleasure Beach it seemed to be riding so much better than it ever has done. Again we are so lucky to have such a iconic coaster with that height in the UK. Whenever your close to Blackpool one of the first things you see is Blackpool Tower & Big One. It’s set an iconic skyline and we literally adore the coaster so much. For those who don’t mind heights it’s the perfect beginner coaster for sure.

Shockwave:

This is probably our least favourite out of the 3 even if it’s a real decent coaster. Front row is the best place to go for the best ride you’ll have in our opinion. Whereas the other two coasters it never really matters where you sit as every ride is enjoyable. Shockwave is really unique given it was the first stand up coaster in Europe and is what we believe to be the only one out of two left. It has the unique element of the zero g roll which admittedly we can understand why it wasn’t ever done again on a stand up. There’s no denying it’s smooth on the front row and there’s hardly any head bashing. Yet elsewhere it used to be pretty rough so that’s why we make the most out of the front row queue. Another downfall is how uncomfortable the seats are especially when hitting the zero g roll. However it’s a fab little coaster and was both of our first upside coasters. It’s very special to both of us purely for that reason and we’d suggest to anybody starting out to give it a go for your first thrill coaster.
