Let’s have a chat about those rides which we’ve lost over the years & why they are still very relevant and important. Everything within this blog is opinion based with some small facts. I’d love to know your thoughts.
Corkscrew at Alton Towers:
It’s only right we begin with this little treasure. The first big rollercoaster to open at Alton Towers which is a key point to today’s history. It was the first to have a double barrel roll as well. It stands very proudly outside across the entrance plaza. But this was obliviously very important for today’s history would we still of had Nemesis if it wasn’t for Corkscrew?
Wild Mouse at Blackpool Pleasure Beach:
This caused a lot of heartbreak amongst the community which I do of course get but for me, I wasn’t a huge fan. However it’s still a staple and very important today. This was only one of the last in the world. Therefore we were very lucky to have this coaster operating for so many years within the UK and let’s not forget this was built in house as well.
Rameses Revenge at Chessington World of Adventures:
More recently we sadly lost the final Huss Top Spin in the UK which was, of course, Rameses Revenge. Genuinely was one of the strongest flat rides we had as well. We only had two within the UK and both are which are no longer operational.
Slammer at Thorpe Park:
Yet again I believe this was the final Sky Swats in the world. This was our favourite flat ride and still is today but unfortunately for us, it closed in 2017 forever. Therefore the final one to operate is no longer in operation. It was a very important aspect of the theme park history in my opinion.
Loggers Leap at Thorpe Park:
After many years been sat there rotting and gathering dust it was finally announced mid-2019 it will never reopen again. This was a huge aspect of importance partly due to holding the record for the UKs tallest log flume. But we’ve all seen those images with Princess Diana riding this log flume, therefore, it’s always a very treasured ride for that fact. There is a memorial within the area for Diana which is very sweet.
So that is a handful of rides which I think will always be a huge part of UK history and forever remain important as well. I hope you enjoyed this blog post I will share a part two if this receives a good reception.
