Top 3 Scare Mazes From September 2026

What a way to begin the spooky season last week. Two scare events & 12 mazes total within a few days of each other, and already some standout moments. It’s hard not to reflect on how the season has begun. Here are 3 mazes that were our top favourites from week 1 of scare season.

3)) Thornevil Coven – Scare City

A lovely little stroll amongst some built-up forest section of an abandoned theme park alongside some brilliant scare actors. What’s there not to enjoy right? It was inherently spooky because of the surrounding setting never mind the additional props, lighting and actors in the mix. We had a respectable jump scare from the woodlands themselves with an actor coming charging out. It may have been short but it’s one of the mazes that stuck in our heads from Scare City.

2)) Edge of the Forest – Alton Towers Scarefest:

Despite the truly horrendous 2nd run through of this maze. The first was just a standout out of the 4 times of doing it since last season. We were at the front so all the jumps were fierce & unexpected. The ever-deteriorating theme of the repeating rooms is a fun concept I’ve always liked; I understand it isn’t for everyone. The latest addition to the finale room before the last corridor where you stop and get some really decent scares then continues absolutely outstanding. My only wish was that both run-throughs this season were consistent with one another and not at opposite ends of the spectrum.

1)) The Final Exhibit – Alton Towers Scarefest

What a maze honestly it’s one of the best Alton Towers have created up there with The Attic for sure. The uniqueness to Alton Towers as nowhere has that history after all is brilliant. How the story is illustrated and delivered is so cleverly done yet easy to follow along with. The genuine sets for the newly created versions all look terrific. How the stench draws you into that old setting draws you straight into getting lost within the story of being amongst the storage. There are so many things to look at and appreciate if you’re someone like me who adores theme park history you do genuinely need a couple of runs and I appreciate it is pricey but it is also worth it to see the true beauty of this maze. Again, it is one of those timeless mazes that could forever change to fit with any forthcoming change of the park they could even turn it into a Scarefest History in the future where you meet old characters from past mazes similar to Trailers. It truly has unlimited future opportunities and thankfully it seems to be a hit amongst guests too.

The season has begun powerfully, and I can’t wait to continue with Thorpe Park Fright Nights, Tulleys Shocktober Fest & Doncaster Fear Factory this week!
