Firstly, how on earth has it been almost 5 years already? Truly feels like yesterday we were all coming out of lockdown and braving theme parks with masks. Crazy stuff how quickly time has gone. But 5 years later and the area just feels worlds apart from the day of opening.
The area feels bleak. I’ll confess my last visit was the first time I have stepped into this area for almost 2 years and the atmosphere is really surprising and vacant. Of course, we know the cutbacks on entertainment but this area having the guards roaming did give it that lease of life. The recent closure and removal of the retro squad ride in the corner has left the area empty.
During our visit, you could have easily counted 20 people within the area. Rides were operating empty and queues were far from existent. Yet elsewhere in the park was thriving with a buzz and almost full carriages whizzing around as it was during school trip season too. But this area felt lost almost like you’ve stumbled upon a deserted area nobody speaks of anymore.
The area itself looks in good condition still. All the rides are themed, the area is themed, and there’s plenty to do in this area. Yet it misplaces the appeal. I’m uncertain if it’s the IP isn’t quite right for the park and the audience. Could it be just the fact that it’s easily ignored especially amongst the other rides on offer? Or maybe it’s not promoted enough across the park as it is quite sheltered away.
Either way, I think the area looks almost as good as the day it opened. I love dark rides and although Gangsta Granny is not my favourite by any accounts it’s still a dark ride and that’s better than nothing. The area is really family oriented. However, I can’t see this IP sticking around much longer. It is very apparent not a hit with guests anymore and entering the area you’ll feel the absence of desire for the area hit you immediately. The park did well but it’s not the right fit but that’s okay as it’s all trial and error with anything in life. I’m hoping the IP contract runs out end of this season ready for next and we see some kind of overhaul of the space to bring that magical feeling back again.
Do you find this area is lacking joy these days? I’d love to hear your opinions.
