2024 is the year of the UK theme parks. Pretty much every park you can think of has something happening whether that’s a re-theme or brand new ride opening. It’s a year to not skip here in the UK.
As a UK enthusiast it’s that season we have all dreamed of and wished for years. We have seen parks that we’ve all said needed a new rollercoaster open theirs! It’s the year where we see iconic moments happening just like how they did 30 years ago it’s a generational memory. Over at Alton Towers, we have seen the most iconic rollercoaster reopen in its new glory looking at Nemesis! This is a really big moment I can’t help but feel a tad lucky to even be a part of the day. Some of those guests who will be there saw the initial Nemesis open and are about to catch that same vibe all over again but in a new light with the brand-new track. It really is a big moment in the history of theme parks.
Heading down South we are about to see the UK’s tallest & fastest rollercoaster open its door. 30 years after the UK opened their original tallest. But here we are Hyperia is almost finished and it’s another moment for the history book. It’s going to be a day nobody will forget as record-breaking rides are truly significant moments in time. A little further down the road to Thorpe Park is Legoland Windsor who is opening a duelling rollercoaster with the world’s biggest mini figure.
Back to the Midlands and Shockwave which opened 30 years ago is going through its own big moment with brand new trains and a re-theme. After 30 whole years of being a stand-up rollercoaster only one of two in Europe, it’s laying that title to bed welcoming a more family-friendly experience and dropping that height restriction with the sit-down trains. It’s exciting to see how this will impact the way the rollercoaster operates. But that’s not all Drayton Manor has to offer they are opening a brand new rollercoaster after 13 years since their last. This rollercoaster is quite mysterious but looks actually beautiful and filled with airtime which is something I’m keen about.
As we celebrate all the new openings or welcome back iconic rides. There’s also the anniversary of The Big One turning 30! My grandad rode The Big One and that blows my mind. The UK has some honestly iconic milestones this season along with moments we should all cherish. It’s an excellent time to be an enthusiast in the UK but also the ideal time for visitors outside the UK to visit.
2024 is the year we all need to relish and store in our memory! This kind of season of so much happening doesn’t happen half as often as they should do and it truly is the finest time to enjoy it all.
