A series I started a few years ago now where on a Thursday I would discuss a lost ride which I was lucky enough to experience. I found this in my notes and thought why not share it with you guys? After all, it’s been 6 years since we very abruptly lost Wild Mouse at Blackpool Pleasure Beach. Does anyone else recall the day the news broke like it was just yesterday?? Yeah, same, it was a surprise, to say the least.
Opening Twitter up that day to see the photo which I honestly believed was photoshopped. Yet it turned out to be genuine. All so suddenly demolished and like that, a bit of history gone without a single peep from the park themselves. I wasn’t all that sure how to feel about the situation whether you loved it or hated it.
When I was younger I did care to ride every visit and that did persist until possibly a year or two before its destruction. It almost had this enticing feel to it no matter how I felt afterwards I’d hop in the little mice and whiz around. It was quite easily one of those coasters which still terrified me until the moment it left. I always found those tight corners rather ominous & the steep drops were filled with ferocious airtime. The older and less brave I became with this coaster, I can’t lie. It did come to the point where I’d rather sit off the ride and enjoy the pleasure of people whipping around that iconic bend out of the front.
Something I truly treasure about this ride is its quirky fun cars. They were just ace. The way they were little mice with individual names was always a cuteness overload for me. As a child, it was always delightful to see what mice you would board.
I always found it impossible to understand the space without the iconic ride remaining there. It’s strange to look back now & picture this coaster being sat there in The Hub. Yet at the time of removal, I couldn’t have visualised it ever being gone given that’s all I had ever known the majority of us have ever known. I do appreciate why it caused a lot of unhappiness to so many. I for one did feel quite disappointed with the news. Even though towards the end it was no longer a must-ride coaster for me it was just special purely through the age & history it held.
Again I know the park would have never got rid of it if they didn’t have to. As hard as it is for us it’s also the same for the park and the staff that once worked on it. It’ll always be remembered for its apprehensive moments and cute little mice carriages.
