Enthusiast, without a doubt you know already about the loss of Apocalypse at Drayton Manor last season. But was it the right thing to do? Here are my thoughts.
Ps – I am no expert nor park professional. Therefore, this posts come purely from opinions and speculation upon how I can see the future. All I want is the best by the park.
The sadness that we all feel as enthusiasts knowing this lump of terrifying memories is probably at the scrapyard as we speak is heartbreaking. This was the skyline of the park for so many years, 22 to be exact. It may have been horrifically traumatising but that is what made it so exceptional. Without a doubt, we all held a special place for it in our hearts and after all, for some of us, myself included this was all we have ever known in that location. It was iconic across the UK industry & it truly held Drayton Manor’s spirit at the centre of this attraction.
Was it the right judgment? It honestly depends on what the park have in mind for their future. If they are wanting that all-family-based theme park which they seem to be striving towards then I guess so. Having an entire theme park aimed towards one market in the family sector I guess it made little to no sense to have one of the most fierce and ominous flat rides in the UK at their park. With the loss of other rides like Pandemonium & G Force that is a very apparent aim for them. However, if they are wanting to market themselves to both families but also thrill seekers then this wasn’t a good idea. But that’s speculating there isn’t something in the pipeline for both markets to enjoy that being thrill seekers & families.
I do fear that the replacement will be towards one particular marker making it less appealing for childless adults to visit. Only time will tell, hey? But losing one of the best flat rides in the UK has undoubtedly been a sad decision for all sides including the parks. So, the long answer is compressed I guess time will tell if it was the right decision to have been made. Although now it’s too late for it to be the wrong one. After all, we are not park management or experts just enthusiasts who have attachments to rides so who are we to infer whether it was correct or bad when we don’t know the vision of the park?
Either way, we hope the future continues to be a success for these guys to thrive in the future.
