Last night was the start of our UK spooky season for us. We headed to our local scream park to kickstart the season & boy it didn’t disappoint. So, here’s our evening at Xtreme Scream Park went.
Please note every run-through of mazes do vary to one another. So these are purely based upon my experience and a massive thank you to the team & actors for creating such a quality event yet again.
Unfair Funfair Coco & Colin’s Warehouse of Weird Wonders:
It was amazing to see this little scare zone if you will get an upgrade as it deserved. Theming was sensational and the multiple routes are always a thrill. With so many choices on where to go, it’s super easy to get lost which just adds to that intensity. The theming throughout was surprising with so much to see. A small flaw is just it needed some additional actors. The few we saw were remarkable and made it feel more than it was for sure. But I’m almost sure it was 2 actors to the entire thing which can’t of been manageable on them given the number of people coming through at one time. That’s something I’d love to see improved on in the future.
Uncle Eno’s Open Acres – 1/5
Let’s just acknowledge the name, to begin with. It’s quite amusing really. Anyway, this maze essentially was the duplicate of last year’s if not a tad lengthier and better theming. It seems to have too many dead spots for me. The actors we saw were fab as per normal across all mazes. However, this maze needs to be improved or retired in all honesty. It does have the possibility to be the top form I can’t quite figure out why it isn’t. Maybe that’s just our run-through.
Ash Hell Penitentiary – 2/5
Getting the rating for this maze right is difficult. It was not horrendous by any means and nor was it as inefficient as the corn maze. But I headed inside with much higher expectations than what was lived up to, unfortunately. The actors again we encountered were extraordinary really on it and the level of terrorising we got was insane. But it did feel as if actors were absent in some places. The theming, smells and settings created are just uneasy in themselves. The props and dummies equally create this apprehensive vibe.
Belvoir Manners 3.5/5:
Theming & set pieces for this maze is just great. We had a quiet batching which always makes it that bit eerier. The actors were on point again no faults were to be found at all. I feel because we did The Village so early in the evening it possibly set that bar a tad too high which made it tricky for other mazes to compete. I find the animatronics alone can create some big scares by themselves which complements this maze a lot more too. I quite enjoy the theme of this as well. The various hotel-like rooms you explore and other aspects of a hotel are cool. This maze has it all down to a tee with their lighting, audio, smells & physical set pieces. For me, one of the largest jump scares has to be two-way mirrors disgusting!
Pie Factory – 4/5
My love for this maze has gradually been building more over the years of encountering it. This year it grew that bit more. It was a massive improvement from the event back in May. The The actors looked and were fab. It felt a lot longer than we had done previously and more towards the length of the mazes back in 2019 pre-covid. For me, some of the biggest scares came from drop-down windows & animatronics. The smells in this maze linger in your nose for days I’m sure of it. As vile as it is this maze does somewhat mean you can get properly lost in this little world they produce.
The Village – 10/5
Possibly one of if not the best maze we have ever done. Last year I fell out of love with it but this year they did not hold back. It felt as if the lack of actors across the other mazes was due to them ending up here. I’m not sure where to begin on how gorgeous yet vile this maze was. Soon as we entered it began. Every room had at least one jump scare in weather that be audio, animatronics or actual actors. The school section was ferocious they pounced on Ant & the finale in the church was borderline traumatic. For me, crows are one of the worst characters to exist during Halloween they are my greatest weak point. So, this maze honestly nearly finished me off. It’s the first time in a very long time I nearly cried out of fear. Never in my life have I quite been that terrified. The worst part was it just kept going it felt as if there was no end! Even when we exited the maze some crows were going back in so they chased us whilst grabbing us too. Brutal!
Overall:
Xtreme Scream always pulls it is out of the bag. Their sets are just phenomenal and their actors always sit on top form. Although some mazes did have dead spots I feel as if possibly there was just a lack of actors too why maybe with it being the first night that’s why? I feel 90% of the mazes lived entirely to the expectations I had if not surpassed them. Whereas Ash Hell perhaps I popped that too much on a peddle stool and wanted too much from it. One thing which I noticed this year was the touching & grabbing were back in full swing which gave me old-school Xtreme vibes. Either way, the night was fab and this event isn’t one to miss by any means. You have to head there this Halloween season and experience it all for yourselves!
