Whilst pottering around London Ant wanted visit The Natural History Museum. I’ll admit we had a bit of mare getting from Victoria to there due to Rome2Rio but more on that in an upcoming blog post. So, let’s talk about this museum!
Entry & Getting In:
It’s free entry with the choice of donating a minimum of £5. You do have to book your tickets ahead or on the day there is a QR code on a board outside. Upon entry, you have to display your tickets to a member of staff.
There was hardly a queue to get in but there are security checks in place meaning it can take a small fraction of time to get through. However, I’m sure we can all agree we’d rather be safe & queue a little than not.
The Museum Itself:
I honestly never predicted a free Museum to be THAT huge. We did not manage to complete it all due to us needing to get elsewhere within a select timeframe. The museum is split up into coloured zones. We managed to finish Blue and do the bulk of Red. So, next, we visit we intend on visiting and completing the whole thing.
I’m also utterly in awe over how extraordinary the building itself is. Stepping inside left me feeling bewildered by the high ceilings, detailed walls & just a naturally gorgeous setting. It felt so epic & we both love anything regarding history & we also love to continuously learn as well.
There’s something remarkable about some of what you see inside. I was amazed by a lot of it. When you see a dinosaur skeleton in person that’s something to be in astonishment about. It’s insane to think they once walked this Earth.
There was a sufficient amount of restaurants inside some of which were themed to their sections too. Of course, there was a few gift shops too. All of which when we visited was heaving which was to be expected especially given the fact we arrived close to lunchtime.
It’s advertised it will take you 2 hours to view everything however for us we were in there for an hour & half and still had a whole two sections to investigate. It depends on the crowd levels & your speed I guess.
Overall:
The fact we visited on Saturday with a lot happening within the local area meant it was always going to be packed. This was not a problem but we do aim to find a quieter day to visit going forward. It was fairly difficult to see all we wanted to see due to the large crowds. However, for a free Museum how tremendous. I almost thought there would be a max of 3 rooms not numerous layers with multiple sections to see. It’s something we all need to visit in our lifetime because there’s so much history inside & it is truly wonderful.
