A few weeks ago the park had shared via their website that Grand National will be closed until 2022. Of course, you could have believed the amount of speculation that has since arisen and undoubtedly RMC has been thrown in the works somewhere. Don’t worry I ain’t hear to talk about the unrealistic likelihoods of an RMC haha. So, I thought I’d sit and have a little conversation about what I speculate to be going on alongside a few likelihoods I’d love to see. By all means, I know nothing and this is established upon beliefs & not facts.
The Possibilities I’d Like To See Happen:
I’m a fan of Grand National & have been since I was a small child. It just provides me with so much happiness. By all means, I’m not here to sugarcoat the truth it did reach a degree where I opted against riding for the discomfort it can cause. If you rode it early in your day you’ll be wandering with a woodie headache for a few hours which is something nobody needs. Therefore, I’d personally love to see this coaster shut for a year if needs be to obtain the fundamental track work it needs to resuscitate it to the satisfactory interpretation of itself.
If not a refurbishment across 12 months then perhaps for half a season to fix up those sections particularly the double down to make it more delightful for riders. Looking at the work that has happened over on the Big Dipper it does prove that a small amount of work can do absolute miracles for overall experience. It is not an awful rollercoaster & does not deserve to be ripped down which I highly disbelief would happen anyway. Just a simple glimmer of TLC across the whole ride to allow it the chance to meander around without the fierce woodie headaches afterwards.
What I Actually Reckon Is Happening?
Okay, I personally think the park are using this extended duration to unravel what needs to be done to the coaster going forward. I don’t think we’ll see it close for a extensive period next season unless it is significant. There’s not a tremendous deal of closed season left for general maintenance to happen therefore I think this is the reason why it’s closed now so it can reopen for next season. But I would not be surprised if we don’t see sections of track refurbished ahead of the new year similar to the Big Dipper during 2020/2021 closed season.
During our visit on Saturday it appeared that the front of the station is potentially receiving some work. As to what it is receiving I’m unsure. The carriages were sat in the car park with just one left on the the track I’d assume that’s for when & if testing is obliged. But there wasn’t anything too substantial to report other than I truly suspect now it is just general maintenance rather than anything too exaggerated.
Overall:
Grand National in my opinion will be rolling around for several years to come. I truly don’t assume for a minute that it’ll accomplish any kind of convert given it’s virtually absurd when you look at that small footprint it has alongside multiple other factors too. I think we’ll see a gradual if not an entire season redevelopment for this coaster going forward. But what is currently happening I do imagine is just the conventional maintenance and it just needs for the duration of what usually is closed season to meet the targets for next year. Of course, I could be way of the mark and completely mistaken but that’s the fun of these kind of posts as I can revisit it and see if I was anywhere near the truth of what is happening.

What do you think is occurring With Grand National? Could it be the beginning of the end or is just general maintenance with nothing too exciting to it? Let me in the comments or across my social media!
Thank you so much for reading & please understand all of what has been said is purely speculation!
thank you for this post.
personally, I think the grand national is a bit of a cymbol of pleasure beach, agree about the roughness- but you also can’t go to the park and not ride it
hopefully by next year they’ll re-open it and like you say, it will be riding for many years to come
Hey, thank you for your reply!
100% Agree it’s hard to resist riding each visit even when it’s not the smoothest of rides. I’m very excited and somewhat hopeful it’ll receive similar treatment to Big Dipper!
