As a local to Alton Towers, it means we often visit around 30 times a year so we’ve picked up a fair few tips along the way. I thought it would be nice to share this with you guys in case the park is new to you or perhaps your looking to make the most out of your day. This is just purely what I have found to be best for us and some advice I would give by all means this could vary on the daily. I hope you enjoy this blog and find it somewhat useful.
Starting Your Day:
I’d personally recommend arriving at about half nine. This for me is to simply avoid the queues for the monorail but I am lazy, I’m not ashamed to admit it neither. I really dislike the walk from the car park to the entrance of the park. So if you don’t mind that walk then ignore me haha. I also find that arriving early can sometimes help with avoiding the larger queues on the plaza.
Forbidden Valley or Dark Forest:
For us, we head straight to Forbidden Valley most of the time as first thing in the morning the queues just ain’t an issue as everyone usually heads to either Wickerman or The Smiler first. But if the mornings are starting out how they are currently with Nemesis having a bit of downtime then perhaps heading to Dark Forest could be the best shout. Again this area is usually really quiet up to around 11:30 on a daily. You could easily do Thirteen and Rita within the hour. Of course, downtime does come into this so be sure to check the queue boards along the way or the app on the go.
Eat Early:
If you like me I find eating amongst the crowds super uncomfortable and I will end up avoiding the situation at all cost. But even if you simply want to avoid the queues I’d recommend eating when the food outlets open. Usually, this is around 11/11:30.
Newest Rides In The Afternoon:
I find a lot of the time the newest rides to open across the park or at least the most popular seem to become quieter after 2 pm/3 pm and that’s often a fab time to begin the queueing. At this time the rollercoasters will be warmed up and at their best which is just an extra benefit. A lot of the time people will either leave the latest ride to the last thing or the first thing.
Forbidden Valley Exit:
Staying at the park until close to exit through the Forbidden Valley gate is something we do very often as it is just so much easier. You avoid the queues of the monorail, crowds walking back from the entrance and the dreaded walk. It’s just a win haha.
I hope this is somewhat helpful and I’d love to hear any tips and advice you guys have in the comments!
Thank you for reading…
