Okay, I know for a fine fact that the majority hated G Force at Drayton Manor. Admittedly I can see the reasoning as to why as well. Yet I personally don’t think G Force was all bad at all. I can see a handful of reasons to love it also. Let’s have a chin wag about this now extinct coaster!
I’ll be the first to admit those restraints were simply brutal. The tightening throughout the ride was horrific. The majority of the time you’d hit the brake run with almost no ability to breath with how tight they had got. I definitely think that’s the main fault I had with this coaster. I had only one ride where the restraint wasn’t all that painful and that was front row during their fireworks event.
The lift hill was something different & honestly quite thrilling, to say the least. It offered a terrifying amount of hang time. It was really unique to the UK as the only X Car as it was & the only inverted lift hill. After countless rides on it I always without a doubt felt anxious about the lift, it always held a place of fear in my mind.
The layout was short & simple. Yet it had so much potential at offering the various elements a lot of us love. The airtime was always fun (excluding the dreaded restraints). As were the inversions. Off ride, it was easy on the eye too.
You factor out the restraint issue and this coaster really was fab. Yes, it had countless amounts of issues throughout its lifetime. Yet it was hardly rough & had a decent layout in such a small footprint. If those restraints were different or there was a way to prevent them from tightening or even if this coaster came about a few years down the line. It truly would have been a gem amongst the UK coaster line up.
All said and done I genuinely will & do miss this coaster. Even after those rib & hip crushing rides later, it was always a truly thrilling experience. I’ve always found the slowly inverting lift something of nightmares! But nightmares which I also enjoyed. I truly hope we see a family coaster or family thrill coaster open within its space in the future.
Let me know if you could find the good in G Force too, in the comments!
