So we’ve decided to put together an overall weekend round up of the 2019 opening weekend for Alton Towers. We’d love to know your thoughts on the weekend below or across our socials.
Throughputs & Operations:
Honestly the operations were pretty decent of course they were big queues as expected. However every coaster was running at least 2 trains and throughputs were pretty decent with that. There was hardly any breakdowns other than Spinball Whizzer which was up & down most of the weekend. Galactica went down due to lost property on the Saturday. Thirteen was late opening all weekend but then stayed open the rest of the day. Not to forget meeting Melissa (Gingerfreckledgirl) to ride Hex together to not even make it into the second room. But overall Alton Towers couldn’t be faulted for ways they handled breakdowns and throughputs.
Merchandise:
Alton Towers are always a park we’re most excited for new merch to come from. Yet again this season is no exception to that either. The new pin badges are gorgeous but pricy without discount. Obliviously it’s Nemesis 25th Birthday which has some gorgeous stuff released to celebrate. Also as expected the new Alton Towers Dungeons has the standard merch you can purchase from across them all.
Nemesis is 25!!
Who would ever think it’s 25 years old when riding it? We’ve unintentionally been really embracing Nemesis during opening weekend. It was our most ridden coaster of the 2 days. It’s aged lovely and rides like a beast that still throws crazy Gs at you!
Food & Drink:
One thing we weren’t really happy to see stay was the hot wraps opposite Wickerman & water fountains around the park. The fact you can fill up any bottle with water is something we love. There’s been countless menu changes across the food outlets like Woodcutters, Burger Kitchen, Rollercoaster Restaurant etc. It keeps the food outlets fresh.
Big & Small Changes:
Alton Towers as a whole looks really fresh and modern as it does start of every season. There’s been changes within Towers Trading within the sweet section it’s been completely done out. The Burger Kitchen by Dark Forest has had a repaint to fit in with the new Alton Towers Dungeons. Of course the brand new Alton Towers Dungeons and Peter Rabbit rides in CBeebies Land. There’s been several changes some smaller then others like the brand new donut factor by Oblivion. The Smilers exit been painted and looking fresh. The park looks fab in every possible way and it’s great to see.
Entertainment:
There’s something really special when there’s entertainment around Alton Towers and for this season the Alton Towers Police have returned again. They returned last season but have stayed. On opening day there was a real small ceremony for the opening of 2019 including various characters. It truly made the opening moment real special but would of been better if they had a sound system so everybody could hear.
Meeting New People:
This season has learnt us that during opening weekends is the perfect chance to meet new enthusiasts. Yet again we’ve met some lovely people just like Blackpool Pleasure Beach’s opening. Some of which has became real good friends of ours. We’re very excited for future openings to mingle a little more.
