Pre-Shows Aren’t Necessary For Rollercoasters…

Pre-shows where you come to a halt to stand and watch a couple of minutes’ worth of storytelling more often than not on a screen. Before you go on your way to FINALLY get onto the ride. They aren’t necessary, particularly for rollercoasters….

To some degree.

Dark Rides I welcome pre-shows all day every day. Purely because if they are done right they’ll set the style of the experience you’re about to explore and give you a clear insight into aspects of the ride that wouldn’t make sense without that quick backstory. I do prefer rolling pre-shows still. But Dark Rides warrants this kind of further fragment to help carry the overall story and just familiarise the guests with the purpose behind the ride which could easily slip through the cracks.

Rollercoaster pre-shows aren’t needed. But hear me out. If you have a rolling pre-show that flows and doesn’t influence the throughput or operations that’s fair. But truthfully how many rollercoasters do you ride with the story in mind to then allow it to impact the overall experience due to that initial storytelling you had at the beginning? I genuinely can’t recall one rollercoaster that I felt was made better by the pre-show. I’m all here for theming and special effects but rollercoasters having a profound level of things to examine is not at the fore of my mind when riding any rollercoasters. Of course, that’s just me though.

However, that being said I love a ah good story. Like Nemesis Reborn that’s a prime opportunity to explain the storytelling I love. The promotional footage alone held the story. There’s no big fancy stop-start pre-show to tolerate instead the theming is all over which tells the story alone. A simple bit of googling and the story is ever so apparent. Give me details, theming & a story anytime. Just don’t input a pre-show that holds up the queue and throughput, looking at you Wicker Man. Rolling pre-shows all day where if guests wish to stop and watch it they can with other guests passing them comfortably.
