Will The Alton Towers Dungeons Be Around For Much Longer?

Alton Towers Dungeons has been at the park for 4 years and it has since become an attraction you don’t generally see many people entering. It’s an up-charge on top of your entry price which causes a mixed reaction anyway. But the future of this area with Project Horizon set to open in the near future could that mean we’ll see a shift happens at The Dungeons. Let’s have a chat.

Disclaimer – This is purely speculation not facts.

Alton Towers Dungeons was something fresh & unusual for the park during its opening year. No other theme park has had its own Dungeon-style attraction inside the grounds before. Something quite fascinating that got a lot of people curious. The best percentage of people would have probably experienced a Dungeon attraction of some type elsewhere but incorporating it into a theme park was a brilliant idea for that time. Of course, the upcharge had people torn but more often than not there were always rational offers available whether that was through the app or other promotions. The attraction itself has always been great (not my kind of thing the interaction makes me anxious) but it is a detailed experience, an easy-to-follow story and the finale was quite honestly horrendous how unnerving it is.

There are a few different viewpoints as to why I think we could see this attraction come to the end of its life in the next few years. Over the past couple of years whenever we’ve been over in that area it’s pretty rare you see many entering the attraction & you never hear really anyone speak of it anymore. The pricing has gone up with everything in life but I guess that may have steered people away given it’s not exactly cheap to enter any theme park at the moment let alone one of the most popular ones in the UK. That boat ride system could efficiently be utilized to assist in drawing guests over that way and scatter the queues out during peak periods with a nice in-house family-themed ride. From a broader angle on the matter, the fact we’ve seen Project Horizon is on the cards within this allotment of the park makes me intrigued as to whether we’ll see a supporting attraction with the current footprint that is The Dungeons. I feel that almost a new area opening at the park allows that space to accumulate further appeal with a rebrand opening up of the space that once housed Toyland Tours many moons ago to be reused again.

I’ve never been a fanatic of any Dungoens if I’m honest with you. For me, they aren’t my kind of thing to enjoy sadly I don’t ever find myself welcoming the experience more wishing for it to end. I find social settings and interactive experiences with actors quite overwhelming I can’t tolerate them too greatly. But I do feel my personal feelings aside it’s time to bid farewell & open up the space for another inclusive attraction for guests.
