Trip Review | Opening Day at Alton Towers 2022

A sold-out day at Towers that almost didn’t feel all that sold out… I feel as if so much to talk about, let’s just crack on!

Entering As A Hotel Guest:

It was a delight to enter via the Galactica gate this time around. Just made everything a lot easier and you almost get a head start on the front of the ride.

Ride Operations & Throughputs:

Beginning the day with a ride on Nemesis which was operating both trains and the throughputs were fab with the assumption of new staff they done an outstanding job. From Nemesis straight to Thirteen. By quarter past 10 the majority of rides were sitting at moderately large queues. Wickerman been the busiest. Thirteen was a rather sleek operation and between trains next to waiting between them. Onto Duel after a sit down which again was looking the best it can. Certain parts of the ride are inevitably beyond a simple restoration. Heading to Wickerman for us to discover the rather vast gap between trains getting dispatched. Typically one train hits the brake then the next starts to ascend on the lift. Nevertheless, we later learned it was one a 1 train service the whole day and queues weren’t getting below 2 hours. Therefore, it was heavy skip for us.

All in all, I have opening days with a lot worst operations than yesterday. It was refreshing to see it significantly bearable. Of course, with it being a sold-out day it did mean a lot of the queues were excessively larger than preferred but we are locals & tend to be picky on what we would queue for each ride haha. Strictly speaking, it was great to see the new staff doing a remarkable job.

New Merchandise:

There was a good chunk of new bits. More or less an increase in clothes than anything else. There’s a brand new Galactica & Wickerman resin. Both of which are lovely. At the moment it didn’t seem there were any new pin badges.

Changes:

The park is looking fresh. There have been small improvements across the board such as new speakers, paint touch-ups etc. It was great to see a lot of the baggage huts back open as it just makes the throughputs a-lot better with the lack of fuss with guests getting on the train to get off to then out there bags aside then back onto the train.

Overall:

If I could sum up the happiness I felt to be back home as I call it then I would. It is incredible to be back and amongst all those thrills again. I love the start of the season and sparking that love off again for these fab rides.
