Can a rollercoaster be too smooth? Is there such thing as too smooth? My answer is yes. I feel some coasters can get away with been a dream on smoothness whereas others need those bumpy edges to make them more exciting. I’ve only ever ridden one coaster which I’d say was “too smooth”. Let’s have a chat!
The Rollercoaster at GT YARMOUTH Pleasure Beach. That’s can simply be far too smooth especially if the brake man is making it go at its slowest. We’ve had a few rides where the edges were like glass which is lovely to some but on a wooden rollercoaster you expect a little bit of rough to make it feel like a wooden coaster. Look at Wickerman that’s brand new but isn’t like glass.
The smoothness & speed made it feel extremely boring. Whereas we’ve had other rides where the brake man has gone a little faster and it gave those harsher corners which make you feel more of a thrill.
I definitely think more or less on a wooden rollercoaster that there’s a thing such as too smooth. I’m here for a smooth steel coaster like Thirteen & Icon. But definitely need woodies a little rougher.
