After our evening at Tulleys we travelled over to Chertsey to stay to visit Thorpe Park Fright Nights. It was 100% worth the visit and was our second year properly visiting this event. We hope you enjoy this blog & there will be small spoilers to some mazes.

Let’s not lie this maze has been so hyped across everyone who attended the media night / event. It almost made me reluctant to believe the hype as usually when something is that spoken about it ends up been a huge disappointment. But honestly this maze is worth all of that hype. During our run through it was so intense and perfectly put together. Whilst inside the building you’d never be able to tell that it was once Loggers station the amount of room & space is insane. Our group of 6 got separated in half so Ant, John & Chris had to crawl and the rest of us went through a door. The amount of actors was perfect to the space and group size as everyone had some incredible jumps. Unfortunately the strobe maze isn’t anywhere near as good as Wastelands at Tulleys. The amount of chainsaws was insane and I’d say if there was anymore then there’d be too many. Unfortunately the finale room we did catch the actors off guard again which therefore meant we saw the chainsaw man just standing there. But once we got fully into the room they revved it up and chased our asses. But as a maze it’s quality top quality and the best at Thorpe Park for certain. Actors in there are fab and so grabby which really does impact the intensity.

Why isn’t there much hype about this maze? It genuinely is one of the best mazes we’ve experienced the layout, theming and duration is just perfect. Almost every room has at least one actor and they give some of the best scares we’ve had. Theming was top notch and those who love the Walking Dead will 100% appreciate this maze. The only downfall I found was the exit corridor with the sheer lack of theming like it just suddenly ends. But as a maze we loved it and had some of the best scares we’ve had. Nobody raves about it anywhere near enough to be honest.

Last year we didn’t rate this maze all that much and found it lacked a lot. This year unfortunately it was the exact same if not worst then before. During our first run through we barely got any jump scares, the new layout is so hard to navigate. We found some of the actors just standing around out of character then suddenly attempting to scare us. After the first run through we decided to attempt to get a better experience by doing it again but unfortunately it just got worst. Our experience was very disappointing and constantly catching the actors just standing around out of character was awful.

Yet again we were so disappointed by this maze given the sheer lack of actors. So obliviously you encounter the guide who explains the story which is easy to follow and is very eerie. One of the best jump scares was that actor kicking the wall and then the train effects starting up. After the guide leaves and you free flow walking past the train there was one actor who hardly scared anyone. There’s no denying how impressive the effects around this maze are they genuinely look amazing. But the lack of actors up-to the point of the tunnel therefore loss the maze a lot of atmosphere. Once heading into the tunnel again the climax to an actor approaching was building perfectly but coming across the one actor who just stood there didn’t even bother to make anyone jump just ruined it. Heading into the finale house it seemed very hard to understand and honestly just not scary at all. The finale room created one decent jump scare and that’s about it. As for theming and location it was perfect but scariness was just none existent.

It was the maze which we anticipated to be the weakest and quite crap. But yet again we completely misjudged and had an incredible experience. Somehow we managed to take a wrong turn and ended up in a dead end yet the actors stayed in character gave us a fab jump scare and pointed the opposite way. Back on track we headed literally through what felt like the woods with some incredible jump scares. All of which added to the atmosphere and overall experience. Somehow me & Maretta ended up loosing our entire group and by ourselves again. The actors stayed in character perfectly during this maze. Walking through the finale house we had one of the best jump scares possible and ended up banging into the wall and onto the floor it got us that bad. Everything about this maze was truly fab and we had an incredible experience and couldn’t fault it at all.

I adore scare zones it’s one of those aspects of Halloween season which impacts the atmosphere hugely. This scare zone was beautifully themed and done this season. For me personally I don’t find vampires remotely scary but the whole upgrade from last season was fab to see. Their flash mob is pretty cool as well and perfect for children & those who don’t do mazes to be apart of the Halloween atmosphere. Scare zones are something which I’d love to see re-introduced across the overall UK theme parks and I’d love to see another one added to Thorpes line up next year.

For us we kind of wanted to do as many mazes as possible rather then night rides. But managed a cheeky night ride on Stealth and it has to be one of the best during dark. It was incredible the whole top hat overlooking the beautifully lit Thorpe Park is an incredible view. Another ride which we did during dark was Rush which again was insane. Thanks to Craig for the tip to see Thorpe upside down as well which adds a little extra kick to the ride for sure! But as always fab rides during the dark and managed to do pretty much everything.

For me, I think the event was put together perfectly with the chance of been the best of the actors didn’t get caught out of character as much. The number of rides we managed to do during the day and mazes at night was pretty fab. We loved every second of the day and spent it with some incredible people. We’d recommend keeping an eye out for Johns (Airtime John) vlog as it’ll be fab and hilarious. But we loved all the mazes in some aspect more than others of course. Highlight maze for us has to be between Living Nightmare & Creek Freak. As for rides our highlight was definitely Rush (we rode it 4 or so times thanks to John aha). If you haven’t already got Fright Nights planned we 100% recommend you trying to fit it in. You won’t be disappointed that’s for sure.
