We’ve recently uploaded the challenges we faced from our holiday to PortAventura. If you’ve read the blog you’d understand how it was all transport / airport based issues. I thought I’d share the opposite version of that post today with all of our highlights from our trip as the negative was only 40% and none of it truly involved PortAventura themselves.
Half Board:
We weren’t too sure during our booking whether to go full or half board or even just bed & breakfast. At the time the pricing between bed & breakfast and half board were quite similar so it just made sense to opt for the better option. We didn’t regret it one bit it was nice to get up knowing breakfast was on offer but also ending our day not worrying about getting dinner. The selection was perfect we wouldn’t ask for any different. As for food quality it was pretty decent. Our evening meal was just as good as breakfast however we’d recommend anyone to be aware only water is included in your evening meal. If you do order any other drink you will be charged. It really helps to save money as well as you fill yourself up on breakfast and don’t need a full meal during the day.
The Weather / Water rides:
It was October so it was fairly cold and miserable weather when we flew out from Birmingham. We didn’t think it’d be all that warm in Barcelona. However it was crazy hot and every day we were there was pure sun and no clouds. The temperatures were roughly 26 degrees but it felt hotter. PortAventura has a whole range of water rides rapids, log flume etc. Therefore we lived on the water rides almost all the time!
Hotel Entrance To The Park:
You may not be at the main entrance of the park but Gold River hotel had its own entrance. It was just behind our room and it was right next to Stampida. The fact it was so close came as a surprise as when we checked in on the map given it looked fairly far away. However it wasn’t and it was easy to nip back to the room to freshen up mid day.
Pool Day:
As it was hot on our second day we decided to spend all morning and some of the afternoon around the pool. It was lovely sunbathing with cocktails that’s our type of heaven. The actual pool was empty there was hardly anyone around. Once we finished by the pool, we headed straight back to our room to get ready for the final hour or two in the park.
Affordable Food & Drink & Sizing:
During the day we’d have a snack like a toastie and large coke. The sizes of the drinks were double our large drinks in the UK. When we ordered our large beer each it came out a yard. I was watching the parade half cut. I think their beer is stronger either that or I’m just a lightweight not too sure.
Hotel Unlimited Fast Track:
There were two options for fast track for hotel guest but we decided the unlimited for our whole stay. It was around 70 Euros each and it was for your entire stay on majority of the big rides and other smaller rides. We’d highly recommend putting money aside for it as it’s really worth it. You don’t need to worry about queues for entire trip. It’s something like an extra 25 Euros to include Ferrari Land.
