Since this broke about Project Horizon a few years ago for 2025 opening it’s gone rather….. let’s say quiet! So, what’s happened? Has it been cancelled? Delayed?
Since this news broke a few years ago we’ve since had Nemesis close & reopen as Nemesis Reborn. Nemesis Sub Terra also reopened alongside the re-theme over at The Curse at Alton Manor. The Alton Towers Dungeons have closed and Blade finally departed the park after 40+ years of operation plus the retro squad is no more and entertainment has also become dormant. Not to forget Ripsaw finally has its replacement in the form of a new version of the same ride; Toxicator. Crazy right? Busy few years of investment and losses but there’s no mention or rumbles on this project?
I think it is a given the project has been shelved. It almost feels like Forbidden Valley has been the sole focus and makes you wonder if the Galactica site is next to be brought up to speed in the area. It’s hard not to associate The Dungeons closing to this Project given it was all presumed to be located closely together. I feel The Dungeons leaving means something potentially might happen here. A massive part of me longs for a nice family-themed boat ride.
The World of David Walliams feels a little lusterless. You don’t hear much about it and truthfully we’ve not stepped foot in the area for over a year and I honestly forget it even exists! Gangsta Granny was brilliant for when it first opened but in comparison to the neighbour dark rides like The Curse and even Hex when it was open it’s not quite the same grade. But it’s still good for the target audience. I do wonder whether the IP for this area is due to run out soon and is going to be incorporated into the Project Horizon zone. That’s to say this project is even still a thing though.
Of course, you then have the present happenings of Merlin. There are a lot of exiting businesses for this company like Blackpool attractions including Madame Tussaud’s, The Dungeons, The Tower and so on. Not just losing attractions from their ownership but also cutbacks across the parks, particularly entertainment and events. Therefore, is the lone reason behind the lack of prospects being spoken of or happening? It’s very obvious things aren’t looking tremendous within this area and I’m pretty sure this is where the funding would sit too (I’m no business expert). Therefore, there’s nothing vital happening to what people know of right now for the coming years at Alton Towers except for CBeebies Land so what does this mean? I’m somewhat hopeful this is all planned out and ready to commence the hype next season.

Will we still see this project go forward? Could it be held off or discarded altogether?
What are your thoughts? X
