Isn’t it crazy to think that today Blackpool Pleasure Beach is celebrating 100 years of Big Dipper! Yes, I know it seems some changes but the ride is 100 years old & that’s truly iconic. That’s several generations’ worth of riders. This coaster would have seen endless arrivals & departures of surrounding rides & attractions. With recent rides like Icon have been built to fit around it alongside Big One, Infusion and so on.
In the heart of Blackpool Pleasure Beach are the oldest wooden rollercoasters at Pleasure Beach. The stylish and senior surrounding the coaster allow guests to thoroughly embrace the park and all of its glory. The fact we’ve seen the park take immense care and pride in this coaster for this season really is extraordinary.
So, the Big Dipper for me is a coaster I’ve always ALWAYS cherished. It had its few years of been rough but since had a re-track which I’ve heard solved a lot of those issues. It has around 12 years’ worth of memories for me from my first ever ride and being spooked by the turnaround point by the teardrop (which still makes me nervous today). From that airtime heading down the drop with that feeling, I’d described at the time as awfully terrifying but now I say it’s heavenly. I’ve got so many fond memories of just lasting happy rides on this coaster and no doubt will continue to have many more. I’m very enthusiastic for the day we can take our daughter on this coaster for the first time and watch yet another generation enjoy it.
Big Dipper is iconic, a classic & one of the best UK woodies for sure.
