Dislike For Monorails

I’ve spoken about many fears of mine like heights and drop towers. But I’ve never spoken about the biggest one. That’s monorails. I absolutely hate them and only just got used to the Alton Towers one due to the fact I hate the walk between the car park to entrance equally as much. I’m really interested in whether anyone else feels this way?

I can actually pin point the start of this fear. It was during a family holiday to Fantasy Island in Ingoldmells. The indoor monorail style ride is my earliest memory of any monorail style attraction. I found the carriage too big for the track and that really did spook me. Every corner I was convinced we were going to tumble off. But this fear got real bad. My next encounter with a monorail was LEGOLAND Windsor (Sky Rider). It took so much convincing to get me even on it for it to breakdown. I was petrified. I was convinced I was going to die on that bloody thing. That’s the main starting point of this fear.

My next encounter of a monorail was in fact in my dreams. I’m unsure whether this has happened to anyone else. But I was holidaying again in Ingoldmells (Fantasy Island) and that day we had spent a lot of time inside the dome. I kept looking and watching the monorail with utter fear. That night I only dreamt about it! I remember in my dream walking underneath it and the carriage falling off the tiny track. That was it my fear was set in stone and will always be so hard to overcome.

I can tell you straight away why I’m afraid of this style attractions. It’s that tiny rail the carriages sit on. If that was a proper track it wouldn’t even be a thing. But the fact it’s often quite small track whilst majority of the time the carriages legit overhangs it. I simply can’t handle. You turn a corner on a monorail and tell me you feel safe. Because it’s impossible to feel comfortable when your turning corners. I find looking around makes me even more anxious. If I was to look down whilst on a monorail except the Alton Towers one I would probably curl over. They are such terrifying rides to encounter. Not to forget the fact your always at a height as well it’s never particularly low to floor and passing over other rides & people makes me anxious whilst basically at a crawling speed.

Since my childhood fear of these I’ve always struggle to do them. Does anyone else share the similar fear? Let me know in the comments or across my socials.
