Okay, if you follow us regularly you’ll understand that we aren’t personally huge fans of this type of attraction. I’ll pop the blog post like HERE in case you fancy having a read. But this is besides that point and more about the fact that The World of David Walliams is opening up next door. So where does the Alton Towers Dungeons fit in?
This ride building was once apart of the former area Cloud Cuckoo Land and known as Charlie & The Chocolate Factory. Therefore it does make us question whether this is a temporary attraction & will it eventually see a re-theme to suit the area or is it here to last? During our final run through of these dungeons we did feel it was a very temporary attraction that could easily be removed. The lack of theming throughout the Black River Boat ride is something alone which makes us wonder.
It doesn’t necessarily have any area to fit into other than Dark Forest which is a bit too far for it to be classed as that area. Not to forget the fact this was once a happy themed boat ride. The actual interactive scenes all seem very temporary and ready to remove for when it’s time is up. As it would have made sense to be the get by attraction until this brand new area. Another thing which makes us curious about its future is the lack of crowds/queues. It rarely gets big queues aside from Scarefest and usually there are so many time slots available during the day even when the offer of £2.50 was on in the summer months (which is peak time).
We aren’t here to slate this attraction as it’s definitely a fab experience and those who love these style attractions would adore it. But we just can’t see a long future for it, unfortunately. If they made it free would that change? Honestly, I doubt it. In all honesty I do hope it’s life is shortly lived and that building is reused for the brand new area. It would be a beautiful edition to the line up and therefore the actual ride would then fit into an area instead of been the odd attraction outside of any area. Also not to forget the fact it’s going to look very strange with the happy themed area next door to an eerie dungeon style attraction.
But then, on the other hand, something which makes us wonder whether this would ever happen is the fact the area already has a brand new dark ride opening. Would they pop two dark rides into one area? We aren’t too sure. Not to forget the amount of the money which would have been spent on this attraction, either way, we would be happy whatever the future holds for this attraction.
What do you think the future holds?
