What’s Happening with Hex at Alton Towers?

Hex at Alton Towers has been shut for the majority of the 2023 season with it being announced recently it’ll stay closed too. The degree as to what’s happening isn’t known but it seemingly will be back open for next season or at least soon as it’s fixed as it’s not confirmed for next season. Let’s have a chat about potentially what’s happening.

You may have noticed that the Towers have remained closed for the whole of the season as well. I do wonder whether that could be related given part of Hex is located within the Towers so is the work needing to be done that extensive it meant for the protection of guests it had to remain closed or is it for amenity to allow workers to get to it efficiently. But then I’m not 100% sure the Towers have stayed shut for this season for this reason but it’s certainly a possibility.

Hex is a Vekoma Madhouse with a walk through sections of pre-shows prior to arriving to the ride itself. Back in 2016/2017 it was closed as part of the Towers Loving Care then reopened but more recently it evidently has had no ends of problems. The issues are unspecified to us all but I’d presume the ride system is the heart of the problem. It possibly needs replacing or upgrading is my guess to extend the life. It’s such a unique ride experience in an unusual location that I can’t particularly see the ride itself departing the park anytime soon given I can’t suspect how they could replace it. But that’s to say this is even a question or possibility (I doubt it)

So, what we know is Hex is closed for the remainder of this year as the park “continues to invest” in Hex. Therefore, to me, I suspect it’s simply getting any of the defects repaired to give it a lease of life as it deserves given it’s a much-loved attraction for guests to enjoy.

What do you imagine the issue is with Hex? When do you think we’ll see it return to operation?
